Important Impressionism and Modern art to be offered at the Hampel Fine Art Auctions in Munich on December 6th, 2018

One of the top lots at the upcoming auction is “Juan les pins, la promenade et la baie” (estimated at € 300,000 – 500,000) painted by Eugène Boudin (Honfleur, 1824 – Deauville, 1898) in 1893. The painting depicts people taking a stroll along the Côte d'Azur coast on a beautiful sunny day, where high European society came to spend winter days in the mild Mediterranean climate. By the moment of execution of the painting the resort Juan les Pins had existed for 10 years only, which can be noticed by the pine trees growing on the shore.

Another important lot is “Le Puits” (estimated at € 250,000 – 300,000) by Camille Jean-Baptiste Corot (Paris, 1796 – 1875) featuring two figures, a mother and a daughter, drawing water at a well. In this work the artist appeals to the North Alpine manner of painting, however, maintains typical for for his art melancholic atmosphere.

The highlight at the upcoming auction is also the work “La Chêne de Beranger” (estimated at € 260,000 – 300,000) executed by renowned Gustave Courbet (Ornans, 1819 – La Tour de Peilz, 1877) around 1845. The painting depicts late afternoon forest, brightly illuminated meadow in the sunshine in the background, and a traveler sitting in the shadow under the trees.

“Une Guinguette à Paris” (estimated at € 120,000 – 180,000) by René Archille Rousseau-Decelle (La Roche-sur-Yon, 1881 – Préfailles, 1964) will also be part of the upcoming sale. Guinguettes were small restaurants first appeared in the suburbs of Paris. They became particularly popular in the beginning of the XXth century. In the painting the walls of the restaurant direct the look of a viewer to the background towards brightly illuminated sunny street. In the foreground shown well-dressed people, who appear to belong to Parisian high society, enjoying their time at the guinguette.

Bronze casting “Cat” (estimated at € 80,000 – 100,000) by Diego Giacometti (Borgonovo, 1902 – Paris, 1985) is modeled in the shape of a cat with tail held horizontally and head slightly inclined.
Note:
A certificate by the authorized expert Gilles Perraut is enclosed regarding the bronze: handwritten "Certificat d'authenticité/ C031018DG02GP", with round rubber stamp Paris, 28 September 2018 and note that this object 1970 was handed by Giacometti to Madame Thinot. Dublicate certificate dated 3 October 2018.
