Parisian jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels has a history dating back to 1906, and it has since then given the world a unique heritage of fine art jewellery. Among the loyal clients of the House are many celebrities and women who have made a significant mark in history.

The representation of a feather, which appeared back in the time of art déco and was rhapsodized in Diaghilev’s ballet “Firebird”, became an important source of inspiration for Van Cleef & Arpels. This symbol of lightness, inspired by nature itself, was on a number of occasions incorporated into other collections of the House. The brooch offered at auction repeats the model of 1927, which forms part of the private collections of Van Cleef & Arpels and the Duke of Westminster (estimated at CHF 20 000-30 000).

Couscous articles appeared in 1949 and stood out due to the application of the ancient and effective granulation technique. Pelouse articles appeared later, their surface resembling a lawn strewn with flowers, which gave the collection its name. Apart from that, the Couscous pattern reverberated into later collections of the House - Perlée и Alhambra.
