“Ascension of Jesus”, Russia, XVIIth century (estimated at 5,450 – 10,910 EUR), shows the Mother of God with hands raised in the orans position, surrounded by two angels and apostles against rocky landscape. The upper part depics the Chist on a throne, carried by two angels. 42,5*39 cm.

Note:

  • Bare levkas in the centre and on the framing. Crackings, areas with losses of paint. Some retouching, restoration (on edges).

A “Sedmitsa” icon, Russia, XIXth century (estimated at 5,450 – 9,090 EUR), has a miniature painting in the centre, and shows six scenes from the days of the week in the upper part: Harrowing of Hell (Sunday), Synaxis of Archangel Michael (Monday), Beheading of John the Baptist (Tuesday), The Annunciation (Wednesday), Foot Washing (Thursday), the Crucifiction of Jesus (Friday). The lower part shows the scene of Synaxis of All Saints (Saturday). In the centre: the Trinity, surrounded by the Mother of God and John the Baptist as intercessors. 53,5*48 cm.

Note:

  • Slight cracking, some dark spots, retouching. Signs of aging.

A Faberge pendant icon of Christ Pantocrator in basma embossed oklad (estimated at 4,550 – 6,360 EUR), Russia, c. 1910, decorated with flower ornament. Dedicatory inscription on the reverse side in Cyrillic: “From Christo, Christmas, 1910, the Athens”. 7*5 cm.

“The Virgin of Vladimir”, Russia, c. 1800 (estimated at 3,090 – 4,090 EUR), shows the Mother of God in the centre holding the Christ Child cheek to cheek in Her right arm. Silver foil on the embossed oklad decorated with engraving. Embroidery with natural and cultured pearl and coloured glass. 31*26 cm.

  • Areas with losses of paint, retouching. Reverse side coloured in green. Dark spots and signs of use on the oklad.

The icon “St. Alexander Nevsky” shows the saint in the centre (estimated at 2,550 – 4,090 EUR) wearing red monastic vestment and standing at a table with the crown and sword on the top. The background area decorated with fine engraving, original gold worn off. The framing painted and decorated with engraving imitates enamel. 94,5*67 cm.

“The Great Feasts” icon, Russia, beginning of the XIXth century (estimated at 1,820 – 3,640 EUR), with miniature painting in the centre shows the scenes of Harrowing of Hell and the Resurrection of Jesus, surrounded by 12 scenes of the Great Feasts. The images of four evangelists in the corners. 44*38,5 cm.

  • The Nativity of Mary, the Presentation of Mary, the Annunciation, Christmas, the Presentation of Jesus, the Baptism of Jesus, the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, the Trnsfiguration of Jesus, the Exaltation of the Cross, Ascention of Jesus, the Trinity, the Dormition of the Mother of God.

Icon of St. Nicholas in basma oklad, Russia, beginning of the XIXth century (estimated at 2,360 – 3,270 EUR), shows the image of saint with beard. His right hand raised in benediction, and with his left hand he is holding the Book of Gospels. On the right to his head is the image of the Mother of God, on the left the Christ. Basma oklad with fine engraving: master Nikolay Lukitsch Dubrovin (1822-1855). 31,5*26,5 cm.

“The Theotokos of Tikhvin”, Russia, end of the XVIIIth century (estimated at 1,640 – 2,910 EUR) shows the Mother of God holding the Christ Child cheek to cheek in Her left arm – his right hand raised in benedition, in his left hand he is holding a scroll. 34*26,5 cm.

“Deesis” icon, Russia, c. 1800 (estimated at 1,270 – 2,550 EUR), shows the Christ in the centre on throne, surounded by the Mother of God and John the Baptist as intercessors. Behind the throne standing: Gabriel and Archangel Michael, John the Apostle, St. Peter (left) and St. Nicholas (right). In the foreground kneeling St. Demetrios, Paraskevi, Zosima and Sabbatius of Solovki. In the upper central part: God the Father on the cloud. 30,5*26 cm.

Twopartite icon “The Intercession of the Theotokos”, c. 1800 (estimated at 1,270 – 2,180 EUR), in the upper part shows the Mother of God spreading Her veil, surrounded by angels and saints against an architectural background and Christ Pantoctator on the top. In the lower part: Romanos the Melodist with a scroll, surrounded by patriarchs (left), Andrew of Constantinople and his disciple Epiphanius (right). Under the testers: St. Constantine and St. Elena. 35,5*30 cm.

On June 28th, 2019, the summer sale at Schuler Auktionen became an international news sensation.
