10 and 11 December, 2021, Dr. Fischer Kunstauktionen in Heilbronn will hold winter auction and put up rare Russian art and collectibles including rare porcelain, icons, military awards, and decorative arts. The sale will also feature drawings and paintings by Old Masters and modern artists, Asian art, 19-21 century furniture, Jugendstil, antique books and other collectibles – totally 2205 lots.

“Baccae with a glass of wine” (estimated at € 5’000-6’000) by an unknown artist from the Bryullov school of painting showcases the Maenad wearing a light white chiton with two fibulas crowned with a wreath of vines, and carrying a large glass of wine. The painting is executed in the manner typical for Karl Bryullov, who had a lot of followers copying his composition and the style of painting. The work offered in auction is reminiscent of Bryullov’s “Italian afternoon” and “Satyr and Bacchante (Bacchanalia)”.

“Portrait of Tsar Boris Godunov” (estimated at 6’000 – 8’000 €) by the renowned battle scene painter Sergei Prisekin, who was the master of military and historical painting and the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, shows Godunov ‘s personality as stern, firm, and resolute. Boris Godunov did not belong to the tsar’s family, and during the whole period of his reign he had to prove to all and to himself that he is worthy to be the Tras of Russia.

“Portrait of Louaho leader “ (estimated at 8’000 – 9’000 €) was probably produced by Alexander Jacovleff during his expedition to Africa and Asia in 1924-1925. The journey was organized by Citroën, and Jacovleff was invited as an official painter. Totally about 300 works were created during this period, which resulted in the exhibition of these works, held in 1926 in Paris, as well as the book “Dessins et peintures d’Afrique”, published in 1927 with the circulation of 1020 copies.

A dessert porcelain plate from a military theme service by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, period of Nicholas I (estimated at 7’000 – 8’000 €), features overglaze painting showing a soldier in the foreground. Around the picture on a golden background is the engraving with two-headed eagle and a laurel leaf wreath. The first military theme plates were produced by the Imperial Porcelain Factory after the war with Napoleon. The plate offered in auction is from the period of Nicholas I, and is the finest example of its time, and was used at gala dinners.

A large icon of the Mother of God of the Passion from the 18th century (estimated at 10’000 – 12’000 €) is made of two wooden panels. A maphorion of the Mother of God is finely painted with stars and pearls and a chiton of the Christ is depicted featuring silver drapery. Two angels on the right and left carry the attributes of Christ’s Passion.

A large icon of the Great Feasts from the beginning of the 19th century (estimated at 4’500 – 4’800 €) traditionally shows the scene of the Harrowing o Hell and the Resurrection in the centre, surrounded with 12 scenes (kleimo) from the life of Christ.
